Wonder and Warmth lead the Indiana Repertory Theatre’s A Christmas Carol

The Indiana Repertory Theatre will celebrate in the holiday season with its annual tradition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, presented by Old National Bank. The cherished classic runs November 16 – December 24 on the OneAmerica Financial Stage and is directed by IRT’s new Associate Artistic Director Cara Hinh.

“In this production, I hope to recreate a sense of wonder and warmth for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. This story isn’t just about the transformation of its main character; it serves as a heartfelt reminder that it’s never too late for any of us to change,” hinh said. “This holiday season, let us celebrate the power of coming together as a community—it’s one of the greatest gifts we can offer ourselves and each other.”

Audiences can expect a version infused with joy, the annual surprises of discovering what a new director and cast bring to the story, and a special rework of the costume design for Christmas Past, designed by Linda Pisano. Pisano originally began redesigning the production’s costumes in 2019.

"A Christmas Carol is a treasured holiday tradition at IRT,” Margot Lacy Eccles Artistic Director Benjamin Hanna said. “Families have gathered for decades to see Dickens’ masterpiece in our majestic theatre. I'm looking forward to welcoming back returning families and introducing thousands of young people to this important work."

Exemplifying the long-standing tradition of A Christmas Carol, Rob Johansen (Scrooge) and Ryan Artzberger (Marley, Bob Cratchit) are both returning to the story—Johansen for his 17th and Artzberger for his 20th run of the show—and marking more than 50 productions at the IRT for each of them. Joining the pair on stage will be several other familiar Carol faces, including Sean Blake, Kayla Carter, and Jen Johansen, along with the IRT debuts of Kenny La’Ron Hamilton, Sami Ma, and Natasia Reinhardt. There are also the joyous additions of multiple youth actors: Weezie Chavers, Henry Kirk, Belle Renee Moore, and Juniper O’Meara Gaines.

The Theatre will host supplemental programming during the run of the show, including Artist Conversations that provide a behind-the-scenes perspective on the production, a Sensory Friendly performance, an ASL/AD performance, and a Holiday Traditions event at the start of the run.
