The Indiana Repertory Theatre has announced its 2025–2026 Season. Scheduled from September 16, 2025, to May 10, 2026, the Theatre’s 53rd Season will include the regional premiere of a new hit American musical, two Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, and more across a six-show lineup.

“From deeply moving dramas and new stories to thrilling performances and a heartwarming musical, this lineup promises to challenge perspectives, spark important conversations, and create lasting memories,” said IRT's Margot Lacy Eccles Artistic Director Benjamin Hanna. “On behalf of the entire IRT team, I hope audiences will join us next season for a journey of discovery, laughter, exploration, and most importantly, community.”

The season opens in the fall with The 39 Steps, a clever and suspenseful comedy adapted by Patrick Barlow from the popular Alfred Hitchcock movie. Four actors will play more than 40 characters in this madcap thriller romance full of plot twists, quick-changes, and laughs. Next is Marie and Rosetta, a play with music about early rock ’n’ roll legend Sister Rosetta Tharpe and her unlikely partnership with a young Marie Knight—one of the most influential teams in music history. The holiday season brings the return of a beloved tradition with Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

In the new year, the Theatre will present for the first time August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Joe Turner’s Come and Gone. Set in the early 1900s, this powerful drama explores heritage and community as descendants of the formerly enslaved travel north in search of fresh starts. The second Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the season is English by Sanaz Toossi, a moving exploration of language, immigration, identity, and belonging.

To close the season, the IRT will produce the regional premiere of the hit musical Come From Away. Set in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, the story follows the emotional and uplifting journey of 7,000 stranded air passengers following the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This marks the third consecutive year that the IRT has brought a musical to its stage—and the first time a musical has been selected so soon after its Broadway run.

“As always, we are looking forward to welcoming audiences from Indianapolis and beyond into our space to share in a season of powerful storytelling and community connection,” said Managing Director Suzanne Sweeney. “We are grateful to our supporters, donors, and partners for helping us create another year of transformative experiences through live theatre.”

The 2025–2026 Season is again generously supported by OneAmerica Financial, celebrating thirty years of supporting the arts at IRT.
