Concert Review: Paula Abdul at Ruoff Music Center

This past Sunday, the incredible Paula Abdul graced the stage at Ruoff Music Center in Indy, delivering a high-energy performance that left the crowd buzzing with nostalgia and excitement. Following opening act DJ Jazzy Jeff, Abdul performed a setlist filled with her most iconic hits, and reminded everyone why she remains a beloved pop icon.

The night kicked off with "Straight Up" and from the first note, it was clear that Abdul hadn't lost her touch. The crowd erupted as she delivered the sassy, confident lyrics with the same fierce attitude that made the song a smash hit in the late '80s. The choreography was tight and dynamic, with Abdul moving across the stage with the grace and precision that has defined her career.

"Cold Hearted Snake" followed, and the crowd sang along to every word. The pulsating beat and catchy chorus had everyone on their feet, dancing and clapping in unison. Abdul’s voice was strong and clear, a testament to her enduring talent. She engaged with the audience, smiling and waving as she performed the track that solidified her status as a pop superstar.

One of the highlights of the evening was "Opposites Attract." The stage was transformed into a playful, colorful setting that captured the fun and quirky essence of the song. Although the animated MC Skat Kat didn't make a physical appearance, he was there digitally. Her interaction with her dancers brought the song to life, and the audience loved every minute of it.

"Rush Rush," a slower, more emotive track, provided a beautiful contrast to the upbeat numbers. Abdul's vocals were heartfelt and powerful, delivering the song's romantic lyrics with sincerity. The stage lighting softened, and the mood shifted to a more intimate atmosphere, allowing the crowd to connect with the emotion behind the song. The choreography was beautiful and made the moment even more impactful.

The concert closed with "Forever Your Girl," a fitting finale that encapsulated the joy and energy of the night. The crowd was on their feet, dancing and singing along to the infectious chorus. Abdul took a moment to thank her fans, expressing her gratitude for their support over the years. It was a poignant end to an unforgettable night, with everyone leaving the venue on a high note. She was the perfect artist to warm up the crowd for headliners New Kids on the Block.
